Default mods with $2000????

So, as some of you might remember a few months backI hit a police car that turned in front of me. Not really any damage at all minus the paint being scraped. Well, I just got a check from the insurance for $3000 after a long hassle. My godfather has a mercedes body shop in southern california that he originally fixed the car up for me with. After I told him what had happened, he said just bring it down and all i have to pay for is parts and he'll do the rest. so he figured $1000 will cover it. SO, what to do with $2000?

Here's some ideas on a budget I thought of but i have no idea about. I don't want to make the car a drag car. I have an all stock 1990 lx 5.0 besides flowmasters, and CAI. If I don't step on it, for long trips i get about 28-31 mpg being easy. I don't want to hurt my gas mileage for trips. I travel about500-1kmiles a week on average. Mind you I don't care in town when i step on it at every light. haha

Ideas: Please elaborate on what it would take to make it happen. I don't know much about right combos.

2.3L turbo's?

I have a friend that has an old 88turbo tbird that i can get cheap with overheating problem. Is there a way I can install one or two of these without hurting the motor? i figured with low psi, i could accomplish such. don't know? how could i do this? should i do two? how could it work? would it be too much power for stock drivetrain?

Other options? i found an intire cobra intake for $250 still new in box on craigslist.? hurt gas mileage on trips?

Other suggestions? and please dont critisize the spelling, grammar, ect. I work too much to care. Any help would be great. Thanks.

the '88 turbocoupe uses ihi turbos that are pretty small. Even if you got two, they're a little small for the 5.0. You could use two turbos from an 86 or lower turbocoupe/svo/capri rs/xr4ti, but make sure you go with two of the same size turbos some came with .48 a/r exhaust housing T3's, the others came with .63 a/r T3's depending on the transmission. I would recommend the .48's for what you're wanting. You won't be able to run lower than 7psi with the stock wastegate spring, even with a boost controller, but boost won't come unless you are on it a little bit.
Roots superchargers are pretty nice for retaining fuel economy if the kit is setup right.

either way if you go with f/i you'll need to upgrade your fuel system a little bit.

I'd say buy a standalone, they're pretty nice to play around with & you can easily get better fuel economy & power with them. Make sure you get a wideband o2 though if you do so you can tune it yourself instead of having to pay for a shop to do it.

I think I might know a car that could prove you wrong on that comment it's even a vert fox 5.0. roots supercharged aswell.
I still get 25mpg highway & run 12's on street tires n/a no bottle. Still good fuel economy imo compared to most.

Im with JTmustang on this one....buy a used SC kit...bolt on and have fun....you'll be happy you did it. Sometimes you can find the kits with injectors and mass air meter. Then upgrade the H/C/I later when you have some more money. Just rip on the stock motor....it will be fun.

Might as well, have him paint the whole car, and find you a good set of rims
