Default tips for taking the dash apart

I have been searching but can't find exactly what I am looking for. I'm trying to find a few helpful hints for taking the dash apart in my 89 gt. I need to swap out the speedo cable and the last time I tried to take the dash apart to chase down some stray wiring from the previous owner I didn't get to far. Is there a few key little hints that can make the swap go easier? Is there a special technique to removing the dash so it's easier to get to the cable? Is there any easier way than what I have been reading about removing the whole gauge cluster?

yea its not fun i haveto get to my speedo too. my car overheated and now i got no speedo. for me the hardest part is the screws under the windshield you need a small screwdiver to get to it. but the only tip i can give you is make blueprints of where everything go's and what screws go with it cause taking it apart is one thing. then you have to put it back toghter
