Ihave an 1988 mustang 5.0gt foxbody withauto tranny. I was just wonderingwhy itwon't shift into 4th gear. I hadreplacedthe transmission fluid already and still experiencing the same problem.Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? please [sm=helpout.gif]

my guess is possibly a channel or something for fluid is blocked, and its unable, but then again, i dont know **** about autos

could be alot of reASons for it but most likely nothing but a rebuild or new tranny is going to solve the issue here.

yup i agree, let me guess...

it tries to shift into od, then just wanders around like it's in nuetral ? then goes back to 3rd ?

if yes, the od band is toast, which means the sunshell is all scored up and destroyed, which means all the fluid is contaminated, which means you also need a new converter.

total rebuild... start thinking about a lentech if you insist on keeping it aod, alot cheaper than replacing everyhting inside and still having an inferior trans.

overdrive band is common failure in the aod[:@]

Check the TV cable bushing at the throttle body. That is more than likely what burned up you OD.

it shift into 4th gear but it feels like in neutral, my final gues transmission needs to be rebuilt or replace, what would be cheapper for me to do, rebuilt or get another used one, what about the labor is it expensive to let someone else put it on?

if you bring the car to them, have them R&R the trans + rebuild it... it's gonna cost you $2500

seriously... look into a lentech, it will actually work right and last, that or a t5 swap

imo are your only 2 choices, another used will be close to toast as well.
