Default engine rebuild... tips for a newb

Since my mustang i just bought, has been sitting for 6 years, its a good idea to rebuild the engine right? Should i get the kits off of Summit or do you guys know of anywhere else. I dont want to spend more than $900 but if its close , i guess i can deal with it too @ $1000.
-Thanks
Edit: its a 1990 Mustang GT AOD v8 5.0 h.o EFI

change the fluids and the fuel, filters, coolant, battery, and see if that beast turns on!
