Did i float a valve?

RE: Did i float a valve?
if they haven't been worked (ported/shaved) then you may be fine doing that... But considering i drove mine for 15miles after it happened to me, my heads were still fully functional w/ no damage. Like i said if you were easy on it afterwards, then you should be in the clear.

they will continue to do this unless you get poly locks.
also pushrod supports will help stop this, but polylocks worked for me, go and re adjust all of them again, only after you install poly locks.

RE: Did i float a valve?
Alright guys when i got home i looked it over and found out that it has some none adjustable rockers on it and that my push rod was sunk all the way down [&:], so i pulled of the intake mani and carb, saw my lifer sitting in there in about 3 peices (i cant find the retaining clip). So i guess for whatever reason the lifter failed, so now im trying to find out if anybody sells seperate lifters or if im going to have to buy a whole new set of them. The ones it has in it look similar to these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-F...spagenameZWDVWbut im hoping that the retaining clip comes out when i drain the oil or something but i bet im not going to be so lucky. What would you guys do?

RE: Did i float a valve?
if it's in the pan it shouldn't get past the pick up and if it did[&:].. the filter should catch it after pump grinds it up[:@]...but I'd just see if you can get some magnetic drain plugs... they will probably attract it

RE: Did i float a valve?
I'd be more concerned about WHY the lifter cam apart. Roller? They're heavy, and if they float are prone to breaking, I had that happen to the needle bearing assembly in my last engine. The cam may be damaged as well, look down the lifter bore and examine the cam lobe for flat spots. Chances are the rattling you heard was the lifter slapping against the cam since the valvetrain had so much clearance the lifter wouldn't stay seated. If that's the case, you'll prolly need a new cam.
