Mechanic said im screwed
I toke my 89 lx 5.0 to Midas because my new tire and rims are hitting the inner front bumper when I turn the wheel. The fronts are 17x8 245/45/zr17. He said the car is in allignment according to OE specs with the 15 inch stock wheels. Could not do a front end allignment with the 17 due to the back tires being bigger 275/45/zr17 17x9. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can get this fixed. He claims the shocks are fine and the casters are adjusted to spec.

It's not an alignment problem it's a fittment issue. What's the backspacing on the wheels and are you sure it's not the rim hitting the control arm on tight turning? Oh and the wheels can't hit the bumper, it's no where near them.

I have 17x9's with 255's in the front on my 1990. I still get some mild rubbing on the outer fender lip, after heavily flaring the lip up...
The big problem I have though is from the wheels hitting the control arm, as Pro already said.
There are limiters available...

I have 17x9's on my 89 and the front rubbed until I heavily rolled the inside lip of the fender. You can do this carefully with a hammer or do it NASCAR style by rolling a wood baseball bat between the fender and the tire while moving the car forward.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY ANOTHER SHOP I HAVE A 92 LX WITH 19X9 ON THE FRONT AND 19X10 STAGERED ON THE REAR AND THEY DONT RUB ON THE FENDER LIPS I JUST HAD MY BUDDY ALING THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS YOU MIGHT WANT TO GE A SECOND OPINION.

you can align a car with wider tires on the rear than the front cause the heads clamp to the rim not wheel so tire width has nothing to do with it.. you need a specialty shop to do what you need ....not places like pepgirls, midas, mineke, or lube center type shops.....places like that don't employ highly trained professionals

Thanks for the reply..I just messured my rims and noticed they sendt me 17x9 for the fron insted of the 17x8 i ordered....you can got to youtube and see my video of the tire rub and let me know what you think..
