Default 5 speed trans

I got a five speed out of a mustang getting ready to be crushed. The trans was in backseat so idk if its to that car and i wanna know cause the car was a four cylinder and i want the trans to be for my 5.0. How do i know if it will work for my 5 liter mustang. Is it a t-5 or not and will it hold 365 horse?

post a pic..there should be a tag on it....but personally I can look at the input shaft diameter tip imediately and say it's a 4 popper or 5.0 one due to size difference= 4cyl small..5.0 larger

MJR is right, look at the end of the input shaft, and measure the length cause even with the bigger end it could be from a 94+ which would mean the shaft is about an inch longer.

BUT I also thought that a stock T5 was only rated for like 300hp? I might be wrong on that though.

not all of them do.. the early ones started out at 265 ft lbs and later on in the 90's they were rated at 300 ft lbs due to minor upgrades with the z spec t-5 being 330 and 4 popper ones are rated at 240 but I've seen them hold up to more

So does anything need to be changed to use a t-5 from a 4-pooper on a 5 liter?

So what difference does the bigger input shaft make? And you just use a 5.0 clutch, and a pilot bearing for a 4 banger?

Yeah You use the clutch from a 5.0 because they use the same spline count but the pilot bearing you need to get one to fit. I Have a few of them because MY carquest is a little lacking on the bearing department! Mine takes alot of abuse and is still kicking!
