Default advance timing

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how and how much to advance my timing? How many degrees should I go and how much power will I gain. I still want to run regular unleaded gas, how many degrees can I advance with out switching to premium?

each mustang is different you have to find where it runs best at, i personally have 14 degrees of timing and i still run unleaded gas with no pinging

there is a small bolt holding the distributor down. loosen it up just a bit. with the spout connector removed, start the motor . use the timing light to see what its on and then turn the distributor and watch the timing on the crank change. when it starts to ping, retard it about 2* then tighten the little bolt back up

I know how to adjust timing but for some reason i forgot. I did my timing in my 89 escort and gave that thing probalby 5 more hp...which is a lot when its rated at 88 total. LOL

Set to to 12* I remember. So I have the timing gun and everything but I forgot how to do it.

So I am too, curious on how to set timing. What component do I adjust to alter the timing? Is it the dis cap?

I think if you don`t know how to set timing you better call a buddy to help ya. If you advance too much you can do some seious damage. I knew a guy (real dork) that drove a firebird and everytine he raced he would leave his dist. loose and crank it up some when he got ready to race. Guess what? Ya burned a hole in the piston...
