Remove the inspection cover off the housing, remove the bolt that holds the pin in (5/16" socket, wrench), remove the pin from the carrier, push axles inward toward chunk, and remove c-clip. Pretty simple. If the axle from the Aerostar and Mustang are the same length and they both are 7.5 rears [:'(], swap them out. I would use the Mustang drums though. Instead of all that why not put an 8.8 in?

Yes you can but make sure you swap out both sides. And unless you have already converted to 5 lug your still going to need one more right side axle.

The Aerostar 5 lug, is the same as using the Ranger rear for a 5 lug conversion. But the ranger uses 9" drums so it is a direct swap to the Mustang's 9". He didn't say what is car has, he might already have the 8.8 just doing a 5 lug conversion?
