Please Help Guys.
So ive started puttin my 302 back together. I got it as a 88 h.o. 302. So i tore it down to the bottom end. I put on sum gt-40p heads, edlebrock 4 barrel intake, holley 650cfm, and sum bbk shortys. I had a 255 that i pulled outta the car this motor is goin in and put the timing cover off the 255 on the 302. I went to put on the mechanical fuel pump and it dont fit in right. Do i need to run a electric fuel pump? Also theres a post type thing that comes off the side of the front of the block what is it for? It has a hole in it...Another is can i run the disty off the 255? Or do i gotta get a special disty? THe car its goin in is a 81 tbird that was carb thats why im switchin this motor to carb...

Get a timing cover for a 302. Whatever a 255 is it won't work. But like cracker said there is the fuel pump eccentric bolted to the front of the timing chain assembly. It will be a little difficult getting the bolts started but after you get them started it will seat itself as you bolt it the rest of the way down. Also get a DIZZY from a 302. If you buy a stock one get one for the year of the car it is going in that way the wiring will be right. If your motor doesn't have the eccentric you may want to get one even if you don't use the mechanical pump bc it helps in the harmonics of your cam and timing assembly from what I have read.

Buddy, you got me baffled?, What's a 255???. Does your motor even have a fuel pump eccentric on the cam (this operates the manual pump).

If the "post thing" is right beside the oil filter then it is for the oil pressure sending unit.
the distributor will work as the 255/260 uses the 302 block.

A 255 is the same block as a 302..its just alot smaller bore and all...The disty when i bought it for the 255 was actaully for a 302 so i imagine that works...fuel pump eccentric bolts? Anyone got a pic maybe that will help...

88 5.0 H.O. has a roller cam, unless you changed the cam to a flat tappet cam, you CAN NOT use that distributor unless you you change the gear to a steel gear. It will go in with the cast gear but it will be like it's in a grinder when you run it.
