Help with rear speakers!
Hey guys. I bought some 5 X 7 Type R speakers for my 1990 5.0 Mustang Lx hatchback yesturday. It just seems like the speakers wont fit into the car because the magnet on the back is to big? If seems like it is pushed up against the rearwheel wells? Any suggestions or are these speakers to large? Any help would be greatly appriciated! Thanks guys.

RE: Help with rear speakers!
Check with crutchfield.com. Some speakers have an extension ring you can buy. I dont know if that is exacyly what they are made for but it would raise your speakers a good half inch to an inch. They look nice too. Hope this helps.

Are you trying to put it behind the grill? I had the same problem trying to mount the speakers in my doors...
The magnet was too big to put behind the grill.......so I dremeled the grill out, and have the speaker on top of it which gave it some extra room.....looks NICE

i have the same problem but only on the passenger side. i have the yellow pioneer speakers. i was lazy so i just pushed the screw in enough for it to hold but it does not sit flush. I assume the proper way would be to get slimmer speakers or to hammer in the metal behind the speaker but i was hasitant to taking a hammer to my sheetmetal :/

RE: Help with rear speakers!
Hey thanks for the help guys. So if i take off the rear interior quarter panels, and hammer the area with a rubber mallet, the speakers should fit alright? And yes I was mounting the speakers into the grill just like factory. I think it might only need like half an inch or soemthing more the clear. Any more suggestions or will hammering some metal work out alright?
