you bought a mustang, that was an lx, but thought it was a gt, and you didnt know if it was a 5.0? oh boy...were/are you drunk?
i think he knew it had the 5.0 in it. he just thought it was a gt but was curious as to why it looked different and didnt have the 5.0 emblems. perhaps he thought it was a lx that came with a different engine and someone done an engine swap.

at least thats what i got out his posts.

The car is a GT. In 86 GT's had 87-93 LX tail lights. Someone put those side skirts on it before I got the car. When I got the car I didn't know squat about mustangs and bought the car for $1500 Canadian. I am now going to fix the car up after driving it for 4 months. When I took off the exhaust I realized the car didn't look right. It look as if the back piece of the body kit was missing. That's when I came to you guys to ask what was going on. I know it's rusty so that's why I am going to fix it up. All I want to know is if this car is an LX with a 5.0L or if it's a GT. If you need more pics I can put some more up.

Thanks

Rick Nagel

the 86's didnt have a body kit on them so it looks right just someone put 87-93 GT side skirts on it. if you want it to look right you will have to get a GT rear bumper and fix the rust first before you do anything

Damn, I thought you people knew your mustangs better. In 1986, the Mustangs bodies were all the same, the GT had the exception of its GT Trim, which included the GT into the side molding and the hood decal. Other than that the pre 87 GT, LX bodies are all the same, and yes the 5.0HO was offered, it was the first year for the fulie ford as well as the last year for the square eyes! Also, they didn't have 87-93 LX Taillights....they had their own taillights, they look like the cobra's more than anything. All you guys talk about doing research on cars, etc.... heh

I'm sorry for not knowing much about the mustangs, I'm still learning. I know it needs an 87-93 rear bumper. But I thought Ford had an LX 5.0L available in 86. It was supposebly a rare car.

from the look of it and im pretty sure i know im right. those side skirts dont belong on that car. GTs of that year didnt have skirts. only major diff is the nose cover and some fog lights. you have 87 and up side skirts. your rear bumper is correct. ppl on here dont realize its 86 and they didnt have all the cladding as the 87 and ups did. GT had Halo seats of that year

Ohsoquick... I wasn't pointing to you... It was a general post to anyone reading. And 86Gt5.0 in know way was I posting that towards you, I give you props for asking as I do too... that was a post for all those people that constantly say, "SEARCH" or "research about your car before asking questions".... in order for people to know anything about something, there are going to be questions. Thats how the world works! Just my .02 cents.

Thanks Guys for you Knowledge. I'll get you some pics when she's all done. The weather has to clear up first (it's snowing hear[:'(]). I have 2" drop springs, 3.55 gears, 17x9 black bullits, and I still need to get the 87-93 gt rear bumper and 5-lug conversion parts. I'm gonna spray it with Oxford white pearl and a black section down the middle of the car. It's gonna look sweet!
