Default 5.0 Rebuild question

Hi all,

I just bought my '91 4 banger, and I'm getting parts to do the 302 swap on it. I just have a couple of questions. I'm either going to stroke or boost the motor eventually. Stroking I'm pretty sure I got a good grasp on, but as far as boosting it, I'm not so sure. If I was planning on putting a supercharger/turbo on it, are there any specific parts I should install when rebuilding the motor, or can the stock 5.0 components hold up? Also, where are some good places to look for said super/turbochargers? Any opinions on used ones?

Thanks!

forged pistons and rods, possibley a cast steel crank...but no need to do a forged craank unless of course you use an aftermarket block and plan to run tons of boost

factory roller h.o blocks up to 92 came with forged pistons but if you plan to get aftermarket stuff expect to spend 500-700 on a decent set of forged pistons and rods

Ouch. Ouch. OUCH. I guess if I'm doing a rebuild anyways it might not be too bad, but still...

Might just stroke it now. Probably a decent bit cheaper.

uhhhh nope!!!!!!!!..you wanna stroke a 302 , you need stroker parts!! ie..cam, intake, heads , exhaust and so forth suited for a stroker for example a 347..when it's all said and done you'll have thousands invested in it to run well

Hm. Well, then maybe boosting it will be better...less initial investment. Forged pistons and rods, decent heads and intake, and leave at that until I get the actal turbo or supercharger.

horsepower=$ either way your gonna spend it, its real easy to sink 5 grand into a stroker depending on how you want it built and to boost it or turbo it well skys the limit.

agreed
check the price for the entry level supercharger from vortech
the blower it self is over $2300
then add in
an upgraded fuel system
upgraded suspension (you need to be able to plant that power to use it)
beefed up tranny (i think the T-5 can only hold ~300hp, correct me if im wrong)
forged internals (as previously discussed)
for the love of god a good tune (many people dont know how important this really is)

there is a saying in the car world

"good, fast, cheap. you can only have two out of three"

I'm not so concerned with cost, but I'd like to get that 4 cylinder out as soon as possible, and if I supercharge the V8, most of the cost comes later on...
