Has anyone taken the time to make their own bracket for a dial indicator to measure the lift of your cam?

I don't know the lift of my cam and I finally got ahold of a dial and now I need a bracket and I don't want to buy one. Anyone have any ideas??

you can buy a magetic base for it.

Hell, i bought a dial indicator WITH a magnetic base, for $30

Yea I know, but I was thinking of some bolts and little stuff for under $5.

you'd need to put a solid lifter in place if taking a reading off the rocker or attach something to the push rod to take the reading without rocker in place but even then so it may not be terribly accurate

I am not worried about being completly accurate with what I find. Just an idea. I am gonna change out the cam anyway when I put my GT 40's on. I can attatch a piece of metal coat hanger that is straight to put down on the cam.

I am gonna get some threaded rod to put into a valve cover bolt hole as the base. I just havn't thought to much on the upper have that cam be adjustable up and down to make sure I get the dial zeroed before I measure the lift.

But here is what I might do. Get a nut for that threaded rod and weld on a length of rod to the side of that nut at a 90 deg angle and the just have 2 nuts to lock the dial where I need it on the horizontal rod. that way it is adjustable up and down and left to right. Maybe cost me $5 in rod and nuts.

Yea, I am a cheap a$$ I know. Like I said before I am young with a wife, kid, one on the way and I just bought a house so every dime has to count when it comes to my baby in the garage.
