Default Engine Help?? somewhat overheating

Can anyone help me figure out why my car is doing this. Randomly the temperature will rise on the car. and then it will drop back to normal. I have a code reader and it seems to be throwing the coolant temperature sensor. Do you think this could be the reason for the temp fluctuation of the guage in the car. Do you think my engine is over heating??

Thanks

sometimes when the cooling system gets low itll develop an air pocket, this will cause a rapid climb in temp followed by a drastic drop in temp. with the car cold remove the rad cap, start it and let it run to operating temp you should see the water in the radiator drop some when the thermostate opens. let it do this several times before reinstalling the cap. if the cooling system was low you need to find out why because itll happen again, and be sure your overflow bottle is at the correct level. some guys call this procedure "burping the cooling system" and must be done anytime cooling system work is performed. and by the way it can cause a temp sensor code to occur. dont be fooled by just taking the cap off and seeing a full radiator, it can still have an air pocket. good luck.
