i have 1.7 on my car and i have no problem with hittin 5500 i do it very rarely. I have stock cam and springs. Id vote on either loosing spark or fuel.I also have the same problem when my alternator was goin it would hit 5k and spit and sputter and not go any higher.

my dad explained to me at wide open throttle you need more fuel so i have to bump the pressure up anyways ( im running lean)...i never bring the car up past like 3500 because i try to be nice to it and not race around like an idiot...( they take your car from you over here )

as long as he used the reccommended springs for cam and are set up correctly.. you'd think that may not be the prob...but anything is possible if coil bind occured and broke a spring
