timing??
Hi
I have a 1989 lx 5.0 . Blew the engine month ago .. so I bought a 1995 5.0 engine to replace it . Installed pretty much everything . The only problem is the timing . I will install the last component tomorrow morning and I'll try to start it . I'm worried about the firing order ( haynes manual and ford shop manual got diffrent version)
The engine I installed is a 1995 HO .... I read about late or early 302 , HO or not ... can somebody tell me what is the right fring order for this engine
Second is the distributor . I put the #1 piston at TDC . (did'nt removed the timing cover) . Then installed the distributor at #1 . The problem is : the damper pulley has a kind of keyway (I guess this is for the timing) .... but the slot is not around 12 o'clock but around 8 o'clock ... is it normal ???
They talk about 10 degres for the timing , but how I check it???? The damper has only a slot , and the pointer has nothing written on it .... I'm a little but confused :P
Thank you very much ... any help is appreciated
Franck

RE: timing??
Have you tried sanding the dampener on the outside. Sometimes rust building up can hide the #'s.
With the firing order. You can try both ways once the car starts to see which way runs better, but this may help... [ul][*] 5.0 HO Firing Order: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8[*] 5.0 (Older, non-roller) Firing Order: 1-5-4-3-6-2-7-8 [/ul]
As for where to set it. I've always set 5.0's to 12 degrees atdc with stock cam & got the best results.
