the best thing you should do is compromise they just started making 3.93's for the 5.0 and it will be perfect for ya buddy.

that is even higher than a 3.73 why would i go with that if i am not so sure about going with a 3.73? do they make a gear between a 3.08 and a 3.73?

GT350, I believe that response about 3.93 was to the original poster of this thread, it WAS someone else's question mind you, not just yours.

BTW, if you really care that much about the top end, go 3.55's, 3.08's will be such a small difference it'll be a waste of money.

And about gas mileage, with increased performance there is always decreased mileage. People always try to claim there isn't, but it's a balance, you can't have it both ways. The higher the number on the gears means the higher the crank rpm to wheel rpm ratio, meaning at any given speed, your engine is revving higher than it used to, so gas mileage will always decrease. It's how much it will decrease that makes the difference, if you don't push it, that drop will be less noticeable. The higher the speeds the more the difference.

3.73 is a great gear set. I would go 4.10 if I ever did it again though. If you have an automatic transmission, beware of tranny recalibrations when selecting a gear.

yes, they make 3.55's. if u are unsure about 3.73's (i love mine btw) then go with 3.55's. i don't go for top speed in my 87 mustang. i do in my mostly stock 95 tho which are you going to want more often though?...acceleration or top speed??? i would say accel, because i love racing people at lights. and i don't hit 140mph in a 35 speed zone in city limits lol. i'm not nuckin futz :P

I'm getting my tires today, Hankook Ventus 225/50/16s, and if I get the 3.73s how much will my speedometer be off by? How hard is it to install the speedometer recal. gear and how much would it cost if I went and got it professionaly installed? Or would the smaller tire make up for it?

You dont have to get it professional installed because it very easy to do. At the top of the beginning forums there is a post for speedo recal and you can go to one of the website and find out the gear you need and replace it yourself.

Do you have to open the transmission to install it? Another thing that I thought about today was getting posi traction. Can someone steer me in the right direction for posi traction?

get 3.90's. you have an automatic convertible. the slowest and heaviest you can get besides an auto convertible gt. i got 3.90's and it pulls great.

about the traction lock. you car already has one though it may need a rebuild with 140k. i need a rebuild on mine and i only have 127k.
