Problems with the A/C in my 84 Mustang, and girlfriend wants it fixed. when i turn it to normal or max A/C i dont even hear the compressor kick at all. it free wheels just fine but wont kick over at all. i am thinking it is a wiring problem somewhere. anyone have any advice? and yes when it comes race time the belt is being changed so dont worry

That could be several things. Could be the fuse, the switch on the dash, the clutch, or it could be low on freon, and the low pressure switch near the receiver/dryer will prevent it from engageing, or the low pressure switch could be bad. Usually, this happens because of low freon on an older car. First suggestion is to check the pressure in the system. You'll need the proper guages for this. If it's that low, it's obviously leaking somewhere, so you'll need to find the leak. And, since it's pre-96, it will be charged with R-12 which is very expensive and next to impossible to get these days, so it'll need to be changed over to R-134. You can short across the terminals of the low pressure switch to see if that's the problem, but don't do it for more than a few seconds. If the pressure is truly that you, you could further damage the system (that's the reason for the low pressure cut out switch). If none of this makes any sense, you should probably take it to a shop that's good with A/C and is reputable, cause any parts associated with A/C are usually expensive.

but if it was a clutch problem wouldn't it be making any noise at all? i was thinking something like the switch or the connector for it was out. i am not sure how long it has sat with it like this. i got the car about 3 months ago and the guy i bought it from never drove it so it didn't really matter to him so it could be that it is just old and needs to be replaced.

well unfortunatley the vehicle you have purchased is going to suck you dry thes vehicles are a lot of fun to drive but they are 20 years old or more and a lot of times been neglected by other owners, and when it comes to the a/c it's going to more than likely end up in the shop in the end the question is to you want to waste time and money replacing parst that you think it could be, and therefor spending more money than it would have cost you, or do you want to get it done right to begin with, and save stress time and money. if your heads sound like the are ticking you prolly have a leaking header gasket or possibly carbon build up, use some sea foam.

it is a 100 percent petroleum, and you can slowly puor it into your vacuum line while the engine si warm and idleing and it will clean all the carbon built up in you heads and it will lubricate the top end. it cleans the top of you pistons too. you can buy it for like 6 bucks at advanceauto parts or auto zone.
