Default Open diff to Trac Loc

If I was to just install a new trac loc unit in place of my open diff would I need to do anything else. I know it needs its 4 oz. of fluid and a seal/bearing kit would be a good idea along with upgrading the gears and to 31 splines. For a straight up swap is there anything else I would have to do???? It is a 7.5 so yes upping to an 8.8 is another good idea.

OR

Could I use this kit and make my open a trac lock?

I believe the trac loc unit was designed to accept the clutch pack so I'm not certain you can just do that as MY 7.5 IN MY 92 WAS 4cyl housing with an open diff with a 3.45 ring and pinion..and when I converted it to a trac-loc I had to use the diff section fron the 85 gt and took of the ring gear and put the 3.45 ring gear on the trac loc unit and installed it with the 4cyl shims and worked great for 5 years until last saturday[:@]......but I believe the side gears in a trac loc and the case has cut out specially for clutch pack tabs so not sure you can just do that

Ok, so then would the whole trac loc unit just be a simple swap or is there anything else involved? I read that the unit I was looking at also accepts anti lock exciter ring. What is that????

if you plan on using same ring gear like I did for 4 cyl rear..I just reused factory shims.....= on the side of each carrier bearing..it's more of a spacer on each side but it's pre-measured and it sets backlash and preload.....but for 200 beans I'd look for a used 8.8..cost to rerpair my 7.5 was right around 250.00 and I had a 8.8 sitting so I'm taking that money and putting it into the 8.8....abs ring is for cars equipped with such ..you won't need to do such= not applicable..if you plan to change gears then as for how many shims you need??? that'll be determined when you are setting backlash and preload= a dial indicator needed to set up such

Just what I figured for each. I still have a junk yard I need to check out here close that is huge and is cheap. Then I need to figure out how to getthe 8.8 home bc I sold my pickup and I don't want to put it in the back of my expedition. Although I know it would fit. Just a little dirty and I would have to find someone to help get it in and out.

bring a used old blanket you don't care about and have someone at the bone yard help lift it in...my bro' picked mine up at my dads house and it was all wrapped in plastic garbage bags and we used an old blanket and laid it in his mercedes station wagon and it worked fine and no mess anywhere
