18x10 Saleens rubbing with 295/35s any solutions?
I've got a set of 18 inch saleens on my 89 convertible, ive banged in the inner fenderwell considerably, I'm not sure if i can bang it in any more or grind it down, right now its rubbing with the wheels on but just hardly, if i drive the car it rubs quite a bit more depending on the terrain and it gets stuckat the bottom ofmy driveway(a big hill). The next most reasonable solution is wheel spacers for the 2 rears which im having trouble with, and possibly longer studs if necessary. I think about 1/4 inch is more than enough clearance for streetability. Anyone have a better idea? Does anyone know if the spacers would have any drawbacks or safety concerns, aside from the obvious of the shortened stud threads. Now mind you the rims are 18x10 saleens with 295/35/18 ps2s. the car is lowered and has no clearance issues on the top, front or center of the rear wheels. The only issue is on the back side of the wheel where the tire rubs on the metal body. I hope that was specific enough, thanks in advance

ORIGINAL: FuzzyDiceRule
yeah really nothing else you can do
most would tell you not to go larger than 275 on a 9 inch wheel, too many problems

RE: 18x10 Saleens rubbing with 295/35s any solutions?
EASIEST FIX...... go to performance/parts store and buy a set of wheel spacers for the rear wheels ( i think 1/2" is the smallest you can buy) put them on and be done with it. If you think 1/2" is going to stick the wheel out to much find a machine shop in the area, give them thelug nut pattern (4.5x5) and get a set made for your car. Should not cost much more than buying ones from the parts store. Hope that helps.

RE: 18x10 Saleens rubbing with 295/35s any solutions?
So I partially solved my problem, the answer was just a bigger hammer....now that i got the clearance i needed, im still havin trouble, it sounds like they are each makin a knock sound from each wheel well at least...its definitely not the wheel hitting anything, the wheels are unscathed and the inner wall has no new markings...im guessing its something to do with the suspension...the struts aren't leaking, the bushings are still good, the rubber seat on the control arm that the spring sits on, on the drivers side is half there, but the pass. one is fine and that one is making the same noise, i can't seem to isolate the sound. any suggestions?
