why use a stock duraspark unit when y ou can pick up a used msd 6al cheap or even better find a crane hi-6
because voltage output on the duraspak was rated at 38000 to 42000 volts = plenty for a n/a car....high energy ignition systems are only needed for a hotter spark when running power adders or higher compression motors........I ran my duraspark set up with an 11 to 1 306 and to the tune of 12.20's with no prob ...the duraspark set up is actually quite efficient on mild street/strip cars and one other thing you can buy a reman dizzy, coil and box all for under 100 bucks= good bang for the buck...and the 6a boxes don't work worth a snot on a duraspark dizzy= been there done that

Another reason is if you're on a budget, you canpick up a rebuilt Duraspark from the local auto parts store for around $50, with a warranty. It's a great distributor for a street/strip vehicle. I have a MSD Pro Billet, but mainly for looks. In my opinion, it performs no better than the Duraspark when combined with a high output coil and module. They are basically the same design?

That's why I said (quote)"when combined with a high output coil and module".

nope had an xe 282 cam in my 306 now in my 347 and ran it to 6500 no problem with no ignition break down....if you curve the timing correctly and use an adjustable vaccum advance on the duraspark you can really dial it in..but when it was on the 85 I didn't even do that and had no probs
