steering column wont go back on?

steering column wont go back on?
So i am nearing the end of my tranny swap, and hit a wall....I am attempting to put my steering column back on but the damn thing just wont do it! Any sujestions? i can get it on and it slides down but not far enough, im coming up like a half of an inch short...
