A C4 tranny will bolt up to my 86 5.0 won't it? How doable and practicle is this? I can get a C4 for $200 Canadian.

Why go with 4 when u can have 5? Is 4-speed even much cheaper?

200 Canadian sounds cheap for a working C4. 200 sounds cheap for any working trans really. But yes you can make a C4 work on your car but since I have never worked with autos Im not sure what is involved in swapping it out. I bet there is a step by step guide somewhere on the web on how to do it since it was a pretty popular swap at one time.

A C4 is a 3 speed, AOD's are 4 speeds. & yes you can swap it. How much work it will be will depend on how much work is in the transmission & what is all on it. For mine all I had to do was put it on, put the shifter in, connect the speedometer cable, connect the transmission cooler lines, & fabricate my own linkage, which isn't hard if you have a cutting torch & a drill. In most cases you'll also have to connect a kickdown cable, but my transmission has that eliminated.
