Default good plan?

i have a 93 GT..real clean but the motor has 150k miles on it..it runs good and i have quite a few mods, gears. pullies, cobra intake, throttle body, full exhaust...pretty much everything except head & cam

now my question is down the road buy a low mileage used motor for cheap and transfer all my mods i have now and put a vortech on?...is this a reasonable idea to u guys... hence it'll be a low mileage motor and alot less labor since i wouldnt be tearing a motor apart, etc..

do this instead of getting a new short-block, heads, cam, etc,etc...

sounds like a pretty good idea but i would at least do a performance head and cam while the new motor sits out, that way you won't have to do it later, you can also sell the older motor becuase they are very well built in the first place, some get close to 300,000 miles on them. there is a mustang here in oklahoma with a stock 5.0 except for some bolt ons still running at the tracks with almost 280,000 miles on it, and it still idles like normal, just blows out a bit more black smoke than other ones i see.

its a good idea becuase you can build on it you still have your older one in your car.

why buy another motor? just rebuild yours, 0 miles is a lot lower than anything u will find, and wont cost much more. just bcuz somethign has 50k miles, doesnt mean its a good engine

Very true, you'll have some piece of mind seeing everything put together, and hell, have some pride doing it!

a rebuild isnt cheap and its my daily driver so i really dont have time to tear it apart and rebuild and then get bolts, gaskets, rods, pistons, crank, etc,etc...a nice rebuilt motor costs about a few grand...a rebuild isnt a piece of cake either..when i can get a motor w/ 60,000 miles on it swap parts and put a blower on.. clean and alot easier

i'll have plenty of pride pulling my motor putting a new one, swapping mods in, and installing a blower w/ it

my personal preference is to buy a used block and rebuild it while driving the older one around until it is time for me to put the built one in, building a motor isn't too bad if you do much of the work yourself. most places bore, and balance the block for 500 to 600 bucks, then its just a mean of putting the block together withing factory specs with the new little goodies inside, after that just tune it and your pretty much good to go, the only thing you have to worry about is trial and error, which is a PITA.

i'm not going to get indepth or anything just the way i feel about it, the best peice of mind is when you do it yourself.

you can save soooooo much money that way, so all you have to do is buy the parts and tools that easily is cheaper then a shop charging 65 dollars an hour to do it for you.
