Default 88 transmission suggestions

Ihave a 1988 mustang that has tranmission problems. It grindswhen I put it in fourth, unlessI ease it in gear. When Ipull forward from a stop the car shakes no matter how lightly i depress the clutch. I took italocal transmission repair shop to get an estimate on the cost to rebuild it. After a day he called to tell me he couldnt give me price until he took it apart. Needless to say I wasnttoo pleased so I plan on taking it to a different shop but until then... I am posting this to get somefeed back. Am I better off buying a new tranmission? This will be my everyday driver. I dont plan on having a drag car. It is plenty fast for me (stock). From what I know the tranmission is factory. The clutch (spec)is only 5 months old with less than 1000 miles. All comments welcomed. Thanks![/align]

update: Had transmission rebuilt. Turns out the trans had an incorrect input shaft, perhaps from a different year mustang. This inncorrect shaft caused the transmission to never full disengage from the flywheel. Syncros were bad too. Bad fork. etc. Ended up costing me...about the price of a new t-5.
