i have a 1987 GT. It has a built 302 with edelbrock 650 carb on it. The battery died in it a couple of weeks ago and has been sitting since. My wife replaced the battery today and tried to start it up... (She installed it because I am in Iraq) Anyways, she said that it is trying to turn over but wont start. it has an electronic fuel pump on it and MSD ignition that are both wired to switches... I told her that she would just have to keep trying to start it and pump the gas a little to help it out... Does anyone know anything else that could help to get it started? She is supposed to be taking it to the body shop on monday to get painted and if it doesnt start then it wont be making the trip... please help me out if you have any solutions!!!!

First thing is check the voltage with a volt meter and make sure you are pushing the right amount of volts. Make sure there is no battery corrosion or loose or damaged cables.

tell her to get a can of spray start from wal-mart and spray it in the carb primaries and if it fires up briefly it's a fuel issue if not she'll need to verify spark with an inline checker and if it's got no spark I'm sure her capabilities to test it are limited from there and you may have to have it towed to a shop

I check my battery using a digital multi-meter. Set it for 12v and touch the - and + leads to the respective terminals on the battery.

Was the battery the only problem before replacing it? Have her double check the terminals to make sure the clamps are tight and everything is clean.

My father in law left the lights on when they came to visit when he was cranking it up for me. A brand new battery was just put in... There was nothing else wrong with it before that...
