you sure your not just hearing the whining of the tranny/rear end in first?
my 4.10's whine pretty bad in first gear, kinda sounds like a reverse gear in some cars[8D]

To me it sounds more like tranny noise than engine since it only does it in first

well i am having problems with my clutch but its done that fan noise since i bought the car year ago ... my friend has a 5.0 and when i got the car he said dam u could hear the engine or fan alot ...

maybe a previous owner just removed all the tar and crap noise dampner out of the car, and it just lets all the noise in?
