Default 86 gt tranny how come question

does anyone know why automatic tranny fluid is used in a manual 5 speed 1986 gt? i'm the original owner and the tranny is stock and works fine, but i just want to know why this is.

there are many small passages and tight tolerances within a t-5 where viscosity is the primary concern for lubrication..gear oil and it's thickness would not be able to penetrate such areas fast enough to provide the proper and adequate lubrication

borge warner actually recomends gm syncromesh for the t5 but ford went with atf because its ford

like mjr said, they have tight passages and regular gear lube wouldnt work. i use rp syncromaxx, it's made for manual trannys that use atf
