Default Electric Fan question

Ok I have two options here I can get that Volvo fan that the 5.0 forums is talking about for $35.00 shipped to my house or I can go to a local junkyard and pull a Tarus electric fan for $10.00 bucks called one tonight and they have some what do you all recomend? and what else what I need? like what kinda relay wiring etc. and If I go to the junkyard I would probably need to upgrade my alternator for that fan would one off a 94 or 95 GT work? or a 5.0 Thunderbird or should I just buy a new alternator?

Default RE: Electric Fan question

Ok, for either fan, you will need a new alternator. I chose a 100amp because I wanted to conserve money, but the 100amp is JUST barely keeping the battery from discharging. So if you have any kind of serious stereo or anything, go with 130amp or more.

About the fan, they will both work fine. What you'll need is a standard 12V relay for 30/40amps I believe the Volvo fan comes with a relay, and most likely somewhere on the Taurus fan is a relay too. All fans need a relay, so it should be somewhere unless it's incorporated into the car somehow with some master switch relay for all accessories or something.

Anyway, just go on google and find a relay wiring guide for the standard relay, and follow those instructions step by step and you'll be fine.
