Default 89-93?..94-97?

Hey everyone. So im going to buy my first project car and I narrowed it down to a mustang. My problem is trying to decide between the 89-93 mustangs or go with one of the 94 and up mustangs. I only want to spend about 5k or less. Im going to want to gut the thing and re-build it. My dad never really taught me much about cars so I figure whats the best way to learn then tearing one apart and putting it back together. Its just going to be a weekend warrior and drag car. Just curious of what people think would be the easiest to work on?

For what you described, the Fox will be the right choice for you. 87-93.. doesn't matter what year it is if you are just going to tear it apart and rebuild. Have fun, you have chosen the right car! Mustangs are the shiz.

go with a 87-93. imho get a 89-93 they have whats known a maf, incase you dont know that that is, it's a better way of metering the air the motor intakes, 86-88 didnt come with this i converted my 88 to maf in the end.
for a tear down and re-build fox ftw. they also make great drag cars since i noticed you said it'd be a weekend warrior.
but if you wanted a good street car to kick some a$$ get a 94-95, they still had the 5.0 which is much easier to tear down than a 4.6
long live the 5.0's

Wow thanks guys for the quick response and greatinfo. Im really looking forward to getting one. I have been looking online all day going back and forth of what I should get for the past week. This info really helps out. I think im going to go for a 89 or 90 fox body, but the 94-95 is very tempting too. I like both body styles.

well i wish you the best of luck man, and have fun with it. i love both of my mustangs, i bought my first when i was 15 lol and havent owned any other car till i bought my 95 about 2 months ago. i have fun with both of them. imo they're the best sports cars
the fox is best for drag, but the sn has a stiffer body and is better for road racing.
well when you find The car you want, tell us. look forward to givin you some help when you need it

i mean take it this way, i LOVED my fox when i got it, i thought it was killa to have the old school bodied 5.0 in my ride. But now i wish i had a car with more styling and curves to it. i'd say the same for girls now too now that i think about it haha. but get whatever floats your boat

depending on where you live if you get a car 20 years old and older it doesnt have to pass an emission test so 88 and older, this way you can do all of your mods and not have to worry about keeping it legal for next year

now we just need to get rid of those noise laws, if bikers can keep there bikes so loud they rumble your house then we should be able to do the same with our cars [sm=smiley2.gif]

Do you want a car that looks like a Camero in front and a Charger in back?
Or something aerodynamic that kinda looks like a Mustang?

if your thinking of a drag car, something to perform well on the track, get a fox body notch, its the lightest of all of them, IMO the hatchbacks look better, but are heavier
