Now What ! Shut off while cruising !
I was driving down the mountain yesterday and the 5.0 was running smooth and i was in 4th gear just coasting down the hill (bout 1.5-2 miles long) not braking or gasing just drifting, and all of a sudden I go to throttle it and nothing. The tach was at like 2500 rpm and the car wasnt running i guess it was just sort of stuck at 2500 rpm. you could here it backfire which is typical but it wouldnt throttle as if someone reach over and shut the key off. So i throw it in neutral (t5 tranny) and put it back in 4th and then i could controll the throttle again only for a few seconds. when i get to the bottom of the hill it did it againg and wouldnt start back up. luckly i had my friend behind me and we just left it there along side of the road and came back an hour or two later and just as i thought it fired right back up and i drove it home as if nothing was wrong with it at all. So what gives out there guys ? Any idea. I have a new module for dizzy, new plugs, wires, coil, starter solenoid. Any ideas, please help. Hop it aint my computer.

Well it could be the module even though you've replaced it. It could also be the pick up coil inside the distributor. You need to be able to check it while it's happening to help narrow down if it's spark or fuel related.

bjlo4life, you said "it was like some one shut the key off" It might be your ignition switch, I had it happen to me just like you mentioned. Here is a write up on how to change one.

I already replaced the pick up in the dizzy. Boy was that a fun job. I have replacd every ignition part on here . As for the ignition switch it has always worked just fine, if this matters. Also i have a 94 f 150 and i can start it w/ or w/out the key if i want, and it never stops working while just drivin down the road. Do you guys think this could be a starter related problem, like a heat soaked starter or a hot wire for the battery or starter ? Is this possible or not while your driving ?
