5.0 & 5.0 H.O

5.0 & 5.0 H.O
What are all the differences? Is it possible to convert a 5.0 to a 5.0 H.O?
I know the crank is balanced different 28 on one, 50 on other. & Obviously the firing order. I would say forged pistons aswell, but some HO's didn't have forged so i'm not counting that.
If you changed the crank, flywheel, balancer, & camshaft all to h.o. parts would it be the same setup?
I don't have a non H.O. It's just something that i've wondered about for quite a while & since search is down I can't use that

RE: 5.0 & 5.0 H.O
DEPENDING on the year of the 5.0 if it's in the roller era.. all you'd have to do is well swapp pistons to forgerd change heads to e7's if they had e6's like my marquis motor did and put an h.o cam in..but IMO all that's a waste just buy one ready to go..dime a dozen on ebay

Changing the firing order is really the main deal (aside from the crappier H/I) but if you are talking fuel injection then changing the computer (for fix the injector order) along with the cam is necessary also. If it's carb then it should be easier though.

The old 302'a like 82 and back I believe it is is 28 oz balance. All newer stuff is 50. I read something on a few different websites that siad if its got a grey/silver oil pan its got forged internals, black is cast. All the motors ive took apart have been just like that. As covered about only difference in a newer 5.0 and 5.0 HO is heads, cam, intake, pistons on some, and firing order.

I think I've got it. So if you took a non h.o. 302 & got aftermarket heads, pistons, cam, & a stroker kit (flywheel & balancer along with it) then there would be no point in searching for a H.O. to build from?
Also something I was curious about. Say you took a non H.O., put it in a mass air fox 5.0 car that someone had taken the engine, but left the electronics. Could you just change the cam to an aftermarket (say one of the cheap letter cams) & be ok?
I wasn't just searching on those years. I meant all H.O.'s in general, mainly referring to the hypereutectics.

if you do the research starting in 85 up to 92 they did

The hypers were in the 93 fox's and probably any other car that had the H.O. like the cougar and thunderbird. If it is a roller block the firing order should be the same from non and HO's. The older blocks had a different order along with a 2 piece rear main seal. You can change this with a change of a cam. The computer shouldn't really matter....not sure though.
And yes for the engine swap you were just talking about you will be fine BUT you will need the H.O. upper intake. You may be able to just turn it around to face the other way but I am not sure.
