Starter problems
 

Ok so i have a 90 LX with a C-4 behind it. I,ve started it with the C-4 maybe 40 times no issues. I put a new front pump in the tranny and started it on the lift to check pressures, no issues. Try to start the car one day later on the groundand i get grinding. I pulled the starter and the gear was worn so i replaced it. Grinding isnt as bad, but still does it with like a klunk somtimes. Im way last cant figure it out... Can anyone help????

O/T but what part of Md are you from.

You did tighten all the flex plate bolts correct?

Eastern shore, right in the middle of the bay bridge and ocean city..... and how did you get the tech certified on your thing? And yes the flexplate bolts are tight... never touched it when i put the pump in..

No I meant where the converter bolts to the plate. Sorry

rub Bernies back he'll give you a tech certified label then:D.....do you have the right starter?? is it a reman one??? maybe for some odd reason flexplace cracked or has a bad spot on ring gear??;)

Yeah they are all torqued, the flexplate is brand new 157 tooth, starter is a new remaned....and the ring gear never acted up till just now.....

Im ASE certified, didnt know if thats why you had it????? How did you earn it??

It's based on knowledge and your ability to share accurate replies. How long you've been a tech . Things like that. They are very hard to come by here.


Maybe the issue is the starter.

there 's a little more to it than just ASE certified...there are 8 total certs for ase and L1.....but working in the field I believe is a requirement ........DIAGNOSIS on noises is the hardest form of diagnostics over the internet;)

Well yeah i know what tests ASE has, i just was wonderin how you guys got your label. So you have to do somethin on the internet?

Well since I'm a mod here and about 25+ years of experience w/ working on cars, it was pretty easy.

The handfull of other members here that have them have proven track records. Like I said, they don't come easy.

What do you mean by "do you have to do something over the internet?"
