^^^opinions vary greatly as the sands of the sea on that one.......but really a cam in itself really won't give you the power you may seek without decent heads to compliment it along with an intake...a decent bang for the buck are gt-40 heads, gt-40 intake and as for a cam?? a comp xe 270 is okay for an ots cam but really there are alot of factors to consider with a cam swap...like do you have emissions???

letter cams are old technology and a gt-40 set up done right and tuned right with all supporting mods such as exhaust and proper valvetrain parts can produce 260-270 rwhp and an untuned trickflow h/c/i from summit usually comes in at or around there..maybe a little more......but for emissions an e-cam will work and other brands that have similar specs as an e are decent choices too

Will that Comp XE 270 cam work on a stock short block? I am looking into getting an 89 GT and I was wanting to mod it a little with out spending a butt load of cash on it.

What "letter" cam would work well with say the explorer GT-40P heads and explorer intake on a naturally aspirated car?

sorry for the post hijack

yeah my 88 isn't my dd. so if I were to buy the "X303" cam kit to go with my explorer heads/intake would I need to have the pistons notched to clearthe valves?
or just install the "X303" camshaft kit into my stock block and be done withit?
