1983 GT Headers? Intake?

1983 GT Headers? Intake?
I need headers. I need an intake. Apparently, the intakecomes in two parts on this year and is a pain in the **** to pull.
Question#1 Do I wait until I have the money to swap the heads as well as the intake in one shot? Or do I pillage a fuel injection setup from a junkyard and call it good?
Question#2 Are unequal length headers best, or should I go with equal length shorties? I know chevy's don't like heat but is it worth it to get the ceramic coated headers?
Question#3 Can I fit an X pipe under this thing or am I limited to an H pipe? It looks kinda tight...
I want this to be a full-on, rollcage sporting racer. I just know nothing about Fords. Should be fun. Any help you'll could give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

RE: 1983 GT Headers? Intake?
1. What year car do you have? The carbed intakes are only 1 piece. EFI's are 2 pieces. You mention a fuel injection setup and are talking about 83 intakes. 2 completly different setups. Upgrading the intake alone doesn't help a whole lot since the stock heads are pretty restrictive. You can pick up a set up GT40's or P's from the junkyard. With a mild port job they are can put people into the 12's. But for the rest of your system you need to tell us what your wanting to do with the upper half, Carb or EFI.
2. For the best overall performance, equal length longtubes are the best but most just run normal shorties or longtube unequal length. Ceramic coated headers are a nice thing to have. No motor likes alot of heat.
3. If you do have an 83 you will need a double hump transmission crossmember to run a dual exhaust setup. These come stock on 85+ v8 fox bodies (I believe 85, may be 86). With that you can run a x-pipe or an h-pipe. Whichever you desire. H-pipes have a bit of a deeper tone than a X but the X usually pulls a couple of extra horses...nothing noticiable in the seat of the pants.

RE: 1983 GT Headers? Intake?
if you've got a 83 it should be the single peice carb intake.
i ran a set of hooker super comp equal length shorties on my 331, they sounded awesome
once again if 83 it will have a single hump tranny crossmember so you'll need one from a 86 up. in 85 they ran y pipes[:@]blah. i like getting h pipes cause of the tone since the power isnt really noticeable, personally i like the deep muscle tone they have
