That depends of the temps that he's driving in. When I was in Arizona I used 20w50 all the time. Here in Hickville I run 10w30.

Why is that? In Australiaeveryone is using 20w 50maybe because of the harsh Temp's we have but even people in Cold Melbourne would never use a 10w 40 in a big 70's style V8. Also funny to note that all high performancepart suppliersstate to use a high quality performance based mineral oil in there engines.

Yea, even in hot temps, its not a great idea to run 20-30, 15-30 is the best for most applications. But I'd say use Mobile 1 synthetic, and definately a Bosch Filter, their the best. Oh, and get some magnetic drain plugs too, get all the crap out from around the engine.

Engines now a days are built to tighter clearances and running that thick oil wont protect as well as thinner oil. If its over 90* it wont make a difference, but once the temps drop below 60 -70*F then thats when the engine wear can be accelerated. I suppose if you have alot of miles on your car your clearances would have increased so using 20w50 won't be much of a big deal. No way of knowing for sure. A 70's year motor dont have the tighter clearances newer cars are built with.

70%+ engine wear is when you start the engine..that's why a synth. shines
