rear end questions
well i finally found someone to put everything in my rear end for cheap when i get the parts. Have a few questions before i order anything. First off when changing the gears do i have to change the carrier as well? The guy who's doing them said I may have to. Also i plan on getting 4.10's, new spider gears, and rebuilding the tlock. should i get new axles too? don't have the money for axles really but if i need them then i need them. keep in mind the cars mainly street so not many hard launches are gonna be seen in the cars life. Also what do you guys think of this list of parts, anything i'm forgetting? and last question where can i get spider gears from? found 31 splines on lmr but they're 31 spline and i need 28, right? i hope i don't have to order them from ford

RE: rear end questions
No you do not have to replace the carrie but it is wise to rebuild it. For the spiders just look at them if they look okay (no lines, pits, or chips) then just reuse them. If they are bad you can get them at the ford dealer. Axles are the say way. If the bearing races are pitted or scored id replace them. One other thing I suggest to replace is the axle bearings and seals.

The guy whose installing your gears said you may need to replace the carrier????? hmmmmmmmmm that's why cheap IMO is not the best way to go but to each his own..hope he installs them right for you..as for axles I bought a set of yukon HD'S for 28 spline for 100.00 from a guy on ebay new never used.. not the best in the world but better than stock 25 percent stronger according to yukon

RE: rear end questions
well the guy who's doing them is a coworker of mine and said that because on dana's you have to get a 3 series or 4 series carrier with you get new gears. He's done them many times just not on a ford 8.8. And burnouts kill spider gears right? cause i'm pretty sure they're shot.

RE: rear end questions
spyder gears should be locked in place when doing a burnout= don't move.....spider gears/side gears come into play when cornering...burnouts can reduce clutch life if using the footbrake and not a line lock..if you have to much end play on axles and or one wheel ******= could be time for a clutch pack replace

RE: rear end questions
yeah there is a little play on the axles and while doing a burnout its still both wheels spinning but its only a one wheel peeler when i try and do donuts. so i figured with the rebuild for the tlok being 75 bucks i might as well do that when i put in the gears. Then i don't have to worry about that.
