4.30's for the win!

thats what im about to order
4.30s are good if you can rev to 6800-7000rpm. I bought a built rear end with 4.30 in them and I have to go to 5th gear at the 1000 ft mark at the track.
but they are REAL fun on the street.

do people go with taller gears in an auto just because it's harder to launch fast and they want to even it out with manuals?

like auto w/ 4.10s = 5spd w/ 3.73s? or is there another reason
just wondering.

I have had 4.10s in all my Mustangs 5 speed's and Auto's they are great! I always tear my friends up with their 3.55's and 3.73's even though they have more mods then me.. Maybe I just drive better then them too...

I have ran 3.73's and 4.10's in my 5 speed. I prefer 4.10's hands down. I also use my car more then just a weekend car but not as much as a DD. MPG didn't go down too much from the gear swap.

auto's have lower numerical gear ratios and lose a little more hp than a manual, in order to combat the lower interal gear ratio's they stick agressive gears in the back. gives you more acceleration, thats what we are all after right

and yea, i got 195 canfields and jay allen cam, he recomended the 4.30's
dont fear the gear guys, at one point i was like 3.73 and no higher, but after realizing that you can go fast and save gas, it takes fuel to make power, and theres only a couple hundred cruise rpm difference between gears, go for sky!

if you plan on a 11 flat car, around the 120mph mark, 4.30's are awsome, provided you know your trans ratios, tire size and all that, and you can spin it to 6800, then you would be crossing the line at the top of 3rd, and thats how you want it.

Wow so much poor info in this one. You want to shift into 4th gear in the 1/4 and use all your gearing advantages, you DO NOT want to shift 5th, it is overdriven and not for accelerting. 4:30's with a decent sized tire will not mean you need to rev to 6800 rpm. Go ask sidewayz6.0 what rpm he traps at. You will need to rev at least 6000 though and that means better valve springs at the very least.

I split em and went with 3.90's. I have a tko. I shift at 6800 and go thru the traps at 5950 in fourth gear.
