Default stock internal on 87-92 5.0?

i searched around different forums, but couldn't find what i was looking for....
well a local speed shop i talked to yesterday was telling me that the 5.0's came with forged internals in these years and that it was possible to run up to 175 shot. now my question is, is it possible or was this just a load of @#5%?

and if thats the case would it be nessecary to change the interals on a bolt on supercharger or would all i need is a good tune and thats it, and if i need to change the internals what psi should i be at in order to run it safley on stock internal, also assume the engine is in peak working order.

well i know 92 was the last year of forged internals. so yes on the 92. not sure on when it started but 87 sounds about right. you can run safely 75 shot on just about any mustang but you can go higher if you want i wouldnt go past 150. as far as the sc goes, 5-6 psi is well within safety. i think you can go 8-9psi with a really good tune assuming your motor is in good condition sense it most likely has high miles on it

The only difference between the '87-'92 & the 93' internals are the pistons themselves. The rods & cranks aren't forged. The pistons on '87-'92 are forged. The '87-'93 internals can handle a constant 12psi of boost without any problems. I know of a person running 12psi on stock internals in his '92 for 2 & 1/2 years. One of the turbos gave out due to not letting the car heat up before running it hard, so he switched to single.

wow twelve psi! also my cavy 2.4 was able to handle a 75 shot without any tune so i'm guessing a 5.0 of those years could easily handle it. i think i'm going to get a blower when i get my mustang. upgrade the fuel system and the exuaghst, you know the right way to run boost.

thanks for the replies

Iv ran 14psi on my 93 since 1999 without issues. Make sure you use an intercooler and set the fuel up right and you should be fine.

Ya stock internals. Everything from the heads up have changed. Iv been waiting for the damn thing to blow so I can get a 347 but it wont. Its only got 70,000 miles and Im pretty easy on it. Iv outgrown going out and looking for people to race so its not redlined every stoplight anymore.
