i currently have a 1990 gt hatchback and im in the process of rebuilding my t-5. its not too bad there isnt too much for parts considering some of the other transmissions i've had apart... mine was poping out of second gear and needed a clutch. thats why i choose to rebuild it.

its actually really easy to replace the syncros, but youll need a retainer ring pliers, snap ring pliers and some patience.
you can find a 78 page t-5 nrebuild manual for free on the net.

It's not that hard. I did mine on my kitchen table. Replace all the blocker rings while you're in there. There are plenty of free T-5 breakdowns in pdf form.

Its about all i used. You just need some general sockets and wrenches, flat snap ring pliers, and a press or hammer/block of wood. Get some good RTV sealent too. I took pictures as I went so i would know the order it goes back together. If your bearing retainer is still the original aluminum you should change it to a steel one.

syncronizers are part of the gear hub!!! when cars grind going into gears like the 5.0 does on 2nd expecially people say rebuild it but you need to inspect the 2nd gear hub as tthe syncro teeth are built onto it and if they are mushroomed flat..you'll need to replace that gear all the rebuild kits come with are the blocker rings that mate to the syncro hub and slow the gear down from spinning to a grind free engagement can take place...alot of times the blocker ring friction material is worn off..causing grinds cause it no longer can slow gear down from spinning on output shaft
