need some help....
just got home and found my package of goodies from summit racing. and now iam kind of mad/confused...i purchased the bbk cold air induction kit (fenderwell mount) with all hopes of a nice "light weight" "aluminum" intake tube/tubes. but instead i have heavy steel tubes that are to me not worth the money. i called summit and he said that i have everything correct and that my tubes should be aluminum. iam a welder and work with all types of material and i can tell you by justlooking at theses tubes that they arent aluminum. so...anyone else with the BBK cold air induction kit part# BBK-1557....are your tubes steel or aluminum? iam just trying to find out if i have been had. thanks in advance for any and all info!

RE: need some help....
i have thought about exchanging the kit instead of just sending it back, but i dont know how i will know for sure that the exchanged kit will be aluminum. i as well sent bbk an email requesting some info on this matter. the 2 tubes in the kit have etching on the inside that read sub-108-3-17-08 on the throttle body tube and sub-050-12-19-02....i am confused as well kind of mad.....just my luck!

RE: need some help....
ok by chance does the chroming process add alot of weight to the tubes? i did a "scrape" test with my pocket knife on the inside by the etching and iam still convinced they are steel.....we dont even need to get into the craftsmanship used on the headers i purchased... there will be some time spent with a dremel tool and hard stone to clean out the flange mounting holes as well the primary tubes at the flange....man i make parts for othe companies all day long and i like to take pride in what i make and not to ship out "junk" parts....whats the world comming to these days?

RE: need some help....
the magnet was the first test....besides looking at the seam on the tube. steel will blue when welded or heated aluminum doesnt. the only thing that is hanging me up is the chrome finish, if it is thick enough to make that much weight then they need to change their processes. any way just looking for other with the same kit or info.

RE: need some help....
problem solved....i just received an return email from the tech dept. at bbk, they told me that summit didnt ask them about the kit and that all of the bbk kits have steel tubes. the only ones that have aluminum are 4.6l 4v, and 05+ mustangs. so i have had my mind set at ease. so if anyone else was wondering like me they are, and apperrantly have always been steel. so if that helps anyone else good deal i know it helped me.
