Default 86 Cylinder Heads

Did 86 5 liters come with E6 or E7 Heads? We tore down a buddies 88 LX to replace the H/C/I. THe heads that were on it were E6's and it has flat top pistons. It looks like the motor came out of a 86 is the reason I ask. We are putting GT40X heads and TFS1 cam in it. THe pistons dont have any valve reliefs so Im worried about PTV clearance.

i could be wrong but im pretty sure e7 heads couldn't have been used until 87 and the 86 motors had different heads than the 87 ups

86 motors had no valve reliefs on the pistons and had e6 heads..most likely an 86 motor..casting number on block will confirm it...and only good way to use an aftermarket cam and heads on a 86 block is to use twisted wedge heads

came with E6 heads, i know this for a fact, i've worked on 2 of them one was a project car i did and the other is 86whitepony's car. if they have a "S" stamped on the pass side bottom front corner, you should be able to see it, i think the E7's had a "T"

general rule of thumb e6=GAY. you have 3 options if you want to upgrade heads

1. get the e6's ported

2.buy some trick flows

3. get your pistons notched, then get any head you want

Yeah thats what I figured. Im trying to talk him into just buying a new shortblock. Probably be cheaper and better in the long run.
