torque converter ? lock-up or non-lockup
can someone tell me the difference of the two types and give me the pro's and con's of each.
i drive my car only in the summer and on the weekends and take it to the track rarely.

RE: torque converter ? lock-up or non-lockup
a 91 aod does not have lockup.
aode and 4r70w have lockup.
pro's of lockup
the converter slippage is minimal, it reduces rev's during cruise and keeps the fluid cooler-hotter fluid kills power, you get better gas mileage.
con's of lockup
the converter is a little heavier, which will add parasitic draw, it will eat a couple hp.
the converter is more expensive.
you can swap an aode/4r70w in a fox, a couple wires have to be run for the lockup and OD, put 2 switches in, one for each and when you cruise flip them on. (i think im right about this) when you race, lockup is only engaged in 3rd and 4th. lockup will help you go faster.
