Default 3.55 gear in 89 5.0

hey just wondnering if 3.55 gears work good in the 5speed5.0 cars. a guy gave me the whole carrier and everything the other day. mine still has the stock gear in it..i think 3.08 and it seems like its geared pretty high. i know most everybody puts 3.73's. just wondering on some feedback for the 3.55's. thanks

3.55's will work fine..they are ideal for performance and gas mileage retention to a point

+1 on the good balance,

3.73 is overkill unless you 1/4 a lot...

it's not overkill. i went from 3:27 to 3:73 and it is very street and highway friendly. never quarter mile my car.

I had the 3.55 gear in my 87 gt ,before going to 4.10's big mistake changing to 3.73 ,and it did great. It's beter than the 2.73 and 3.08 because it gives you quicker take off but then in 5th gear it like you are idling at hwy speed.

one more question. when i put the gear in do i just get a speedo gear for the t-5 with the correct teeth for a 3.55 to calibrate the speedometer? if so how hard is it to put in? i think turbo coupes had 3.55 gears with the world class t-5's. will that work? thanks

To answer your question, the 5 sp 5.0 gts should have 3.27s in them.
