Default Spray bombed hood help

Hey guys someone offered a 3" cowl fiberglass hood to me for 120 dollars. I need help with getting it into a primer. It was spray painted red so it looks tacky as hell but for the price i can't pass it up. What do i need to do to get theold spray paint off and just get some primer on it?

don't use any thinner on it you can risk weakinging it. Block sand the old paint off. block sand= a square block and sand paper. start off with a high grit than work down.

+1 on the block sanding. You will have to hand sand the areas where you can't get to with a block. What type of primer are you planning on using?.

ill do some block sanding then. and i have no idea on what kind of primer... its just going to be temporary because once winter rolls around i plan on stripping it all. so dont get mad or laugh at me when i ask if just shooting can primer on is ok? like i said its just temporary and would be stripped down again soon along with the whole car. just let me know. my pockets are empty money wise so it HAS to be cheap

you officially FAIL at body work.

use a light grit sandpaper like 300-400 and wetsand it. You will not damage the gelcoat like you will with 180 grit, and the paint will come off easy

just sand it with the proper grit then re shoot it with primer....once you get to the point where it is primered then you can further prep it with 3mm scotch brit pads to smooth it out

+1 on that. 180 is WAY too ROUGH!! 320 or 400 is the proper grit!

If you plan on preping it better later on than just hit it with the primer out of a spray can. of course that is just gonna add extra work for you down the road when you plan to prep it real good. hell you might as well get a spray can of paint matching closely to what color your car is now and just paint it. otherwise its gonna be as tacky as the red paint you have on it now.
