Default Help with an Overheating issue....

Hello, i used to be a member hear a while ago, had a 03 SVT, long story short couldn't find my ID & password...

I have a 5.0 LX with the T-5 tranny i was driving to work (35 miles about) when i smelt oil and hurd a slight noise, not quite the death tick im familiar with when a motor dies, but a tick never the less. the car slowly lost power, had to down shift threw the gears from 5th (@70mph when the issue arised). once pulled over it was noticeably overheated but no pouring out of steam or nothing. tried to start it there... no sucess. towed it home... now hear comes the big mistake... i didn't try to start the car before i tore into it. ive checked most of the logical areas. still need to do a compression test (but the car wont turn over) but i checked the alternator... its good... timing chin looks good but cant find out the timing itself without the car running. I am un sure of the fan relay(if it has one...) i did notice the gasket around the thermostat was completly shot (not sure if thats the issue, now i have a friend who claims the thermostat is not required... but that cant be correct. i did notice that the fluid levels in the radiator were lower then i would like. and i looked and it seems that the prior owner was running a tap water only mix when he sold me the car, the whole inside of the cooling lines are lined in rust.

well to ask any idea as to what happened (vapor lock or something) i am sure this is a one time deal since it has ran fine the last 2 months i have had it. if someone can think of something i am not, go ahead and let me know. thanks for the help!

If you got it that hot your headgaskets could have let go and hydrolocked your engine. Remove all the plugs and try to turn it over by hand first. As far as the original problem of overheating, I have a simular issue on hot days 90+. I drained my coolant down to change my t-stat and looked inside the radiator and saw a lot of corrosion in the tubes of the rad. I changed the t-stat and it did not help, time for a new radiator, lowflow through it. If you got it hot enough to shut off then most likely something is damaged inside the engine. Good luck.
