Whats the best cam for 24lb. i
i have 5speed 88 gt HO california edition that came with mass air, mostly stock except for a a BBK coldair intake(sidewall mounted).i think the guy that had it before me changed the injectors to 24lb. There injectors are orange and i dont think they are stock because i have never seen orange stock injectors. Plus the guy said that "he thought but couldnt remember" that they were 24 lb. Iassume that this doesnt do much for your fuel delivery if you have a stock cam and was wondering what kind of cam would be best for my car? I plan on putting roller rocker arms in the near future also. Is there a combination of top endparts that has worked well for you guys? I would appreciate the input greatly..

Figure out what you want from the car, then pic the cam. My stock 19 lb-ers were orange as well.
So tell us, what do you want from the car?
What kind of power? Fuel economy matter? manual or auto? If auto, willing to buy new torque converter? Dragstrip only or mostly daily driver?
It's possible to get over 300hp on a 5.0 with the stock cam. A set of AFR 165 heads, good intake manifold, 1.7:1 rockers, headers, maf, tb, adjustible fuel pressure regulator.. you should be pretty close to 300. Bump the compression up to 10:1 and you'll be golden (but I'd only do that if you were planning on rebuilding the whole thing).

well to start off, i just want to get the most out of my engine for the least amount of hassle. I was considering buying a crate motor but out here Cali we have very high emission standards. most of the ones i have seen that i liked would not be smog legal out here. I dont really have a place to build an engine up either so rebuilding the engine myself isnt an option at this time. I think right now im going for bolt-onsto keep optimum performance without too much work. In the future (dont now if ether near or distant)i plan to either rebuild current engine or have a new short block build to my specs.

To answer your questions..

Somewhere in the low to mid 300hp will be just fine, maybe an eventual super charger.. fuel economy isnt really a factor becuase i allready drive my 50 hard as it is.. 5 speed manual, stock tranny, BBK linkages to aHurst short shifter and ****, Centerforce Stage 2 Performance clutch and new stock replacement fly wheel also thinking of 3.42's of 3.55 gears.. Daily driver and showing off at night and on weekends..

Im open for any sugestions oh wise Sensay..

I dont think you should build your engine around your injectors, your injectors dont add performance, they just add needed fuel as hp increase. 19# injectors are good for 300 or sohp I hear in a 5.0

Get a cam for what you want the car to do and how you want it do drive and where you want the powerband to be, then build your mods around that. Thats the general idea.

Ah crum. Passing emissions blows. If you're a patient kind of guy you could make just about any engine pass though. Here's what I'm going to recommend -
AFR 165cc heads
24lb injectors
MAF
TB 65, 70mm max
EGR spacer
Professional Products power + intake manifold(s)
1.7 roller rockers
CARB legal headers, high flow cats, decent mufflers
Tweecer RT (along with a wideband O2 sensor and a laptop)
I like my F303 cam, but peak torque doesn't hit until 2800rpm, which is a little high for a daily driver (but certainly doable) The E303 might be a little better choice, or certainly the B303 is a decent one (and carb legal iirc)
When you choose to rebuild the bottom end you'll already have a great setup for the top, and if you want to stay NA you could bump compression up a little, or if you want to go FI drop it down. With a blower you'd probably want some bigger injectors and possibly a bigger throttle body and maf.
The reason for the Tweecer is your emissions testing. You can set one of your 4 maps to run super lean, allowing you to pass the sniffer test. Just pull in to the bay, switch it over, run like crap for a minute, then switch it back after you pass. It'll also help you get the most from your combo - with a wild cam your idle will suffer and it can be adjusted in the tweecer.

horatio...good call there...also a high # pcv valve will help to clean up the engine as well as some gas additive before you go,also a full take of fresh gas will help. those damn emmission suck so big bussiness can keep on polutting
