my mod list for 87 LX!
alright so i got my 87 LX last sunday (pics will be up today), and it drives great! engine is bone stock, but is geared with 3.73s and has an aluminum drive shaft. the rear end is rebuilt, posi and all, and the tranny has 410 miles on it right now. only other thing is that it has a pair of 40 series flows. ive already raced and beat a 350Z, maro SS, 02 mustang GT, mini cooper S, a kia =P, and a full bolt on v6 F-150. its pretty quick and i like it but its time that i put some bolt-ons into it. ill have about800 give or take 100 to spend on the parts because im getting a new windshield put on and getting it painted silver so that takes from my performance fund so im looking for used but in good condition.
list:
1. U/L intakes. trickflow or something else. any suggestions?
2. 70mm TB. i dont want to go too big but 70 seems perfect for me.
3. Fender well Cold air induction. just trying to find anything that will work at the moment.
4. shortie headers.. or maybe longtubes. i hear that longtubes will give me good all around torque but shorties will give me more torque at a given point.
5. H-pipe.. im going for one with high flow cats but something that will work with whatever headers i want.
6. SLP LM1s. i might not actually do this because im sure the flows will be fine with the other stuff.
lemme know what you think and if you know anyone selling parts within my price range. thanks!

RE: my mod list for 87 LX!
Your mod list seems typical and appropriate but I 'd add for future a cam and decent heads and as for you beating an SS camaroif it was the ls-1 equipped one then the driver didn't know how to run it cause there is noway a 87 lx with just gears and exhaust can hang with an ls-1 ss camaro

go longtubes if you have the money. i wouldn't base that decision on the "torque loss" and the driver of the ss must of been playin because i have a fairly built motor and had a dang close race with my buddies ss... maybe ur just an AMAZING driver, who knows. but good luck with your car and ask as many questions that u can. people are full of knowledge here.

next, do long tubes, there is no loss at all anywhere and shorties only add about 5 hp tops if anything
ss badging maybe on a z28 you never know, i've seen ss badging on v6 cars, but maybe he couldn't drive either
so back to the boltons... here is my opinion
most of what you said won't do squat, especially the intake on stock heads, not 1 single hp, or the bigger tb either, you just don't need it. those things allow you to make more power from not enuff airflow... they don't just make power on an otherwise efficient motor
i would say since your geared, get a spare set of wheels and put some et streets on them, then save for heads, you can do a cold air kit for now too, but don't waste too much some of that other stuff, you will regret it i guarantee.
lower control arms, a nice shifter if you do not have one, and that should eat up $800 i bet
a stock mustang that can hook w/ gears will run very close to 12's, so get it to the ground then make more power.
