make an auto shift quicker?
a buddy of mine just bought a stock 1994 mustang ran it and it ran 16.20 Bone Stock!!!!!!
he bought a x pipe catted and installed a cai he ran a 15.50
I bumped up the timing it was on 6* I put it on 12* he still ran a 15.50 I dont know why this ddint pick him up some.
he ran the car in drive I asked him where it shifted at.It shifts at 4500 rpms......so I rode with him and shifted the car for him I shifted at 5800 and there was a long pause between shifts like the car just cut out like some kind of limiter or something?????
Any of you guys with an auto have this on your car too. does he need a shift kit or is it controlled by the computer??I havent messed with any kind of aod before.....just wondering what he needs and why his that superlong pause between shifts..

RE: make an auto shift quicker?
I'm not completely sure but I think the only part of that tranny that's computer controled is the overdrive. Reguardless the shift kit and stall will be a night and day difference.

the pcm has set rpm shift points. with a Tweecer they can be modified to where you want.
you can get a shift kit and hold it manually in 1st and a little before you want to shift plop it into 2nd, then do the same for 3rd (D) the rev limiter is 6250, and thats what u hit, it takes a couple hundred rpms for it to complete the shift.

I used to have a 95 Tbird. Difficulties shifting that one too.
Either pull the next gear early, a few hundred rpm later it finally shifts, too early. Or pull it later and it hits the rev limiter. Almost like the perfect spot didn't exist.
Not sure if it was the same trans. Mine was a 4.6L. It ran the same et, 15.5

you dont need a shift kit ot hold it in gear, the valve body controls that.
the shift kit makes it shift faster and harder, which is good for performance and the life span of the trans.
